FAQ
What is the I Ching?
The I Ching, or Book of Changes, is a classical Chinese text of 64 hexagrams, each a figure of six lines with a judgment, an image and line texts. It has been read for reflection for around three thousand years.
How is my hexagram chosen?
By the traditional three-coin method, using your device’s secure random generator. Each cast gives 6, 7, 8 or 9: 7 and 9 are yang lines, 6 and 8 are yin lines, and 6 and 9 are moving lines that transform into their opposite to form a changing hexagram. The animation never chooses the result.
Where does the text come from?
The Chinese text is the received Zhouyi. The English is James Legge’s public-domain translation (1882). Plain-English meanings are our own editorial summaries, and the personal reading interprets only these texts.
Can the I Ching predict the future?
No reading here is a guaranteed prediction. The I Ching is offered as a mirror for reflection, insight and cultural exploration — not as medical, financial, legal or other professional advice.
